Five Best Waterproof Smartphones

A waterproof phone is an excellent option, and you won’t have to worry if you accidentally drop it in the water. Waterproof smartphones allow you to use your new phone without worrying about getting it wet, can allow you to take photos underwater. When you look for a waterproof phone it is important to make sure you buy the right level of protection.

Having a waterproof phone is handy for a lot of different reasons but it can be hard to know which handsets offer this and what the levels of protection mean. A water-resistant phone can handle a splash, while one that is billed as waterproof can likely handle full submersion for a half an hour in three to six feet of water. If you are really eager to own one water resistant smartphone, you can choose from several options.

Here we have listed the five best waterproof smartphones of 2017. The IP rating system is used for electronics which feature dust and water protection.

IP Rating (IP67, IP68)

“IP stands for ‘Ingress Protection’ and is used to define the sealing effectiveness of electrical enclosures against intrusion from foreign bodies and moisture.”

The first number refers to how the device sealed against solid particles like dust and the second digit is for water protection.

1. Samsung Galaxy S7

Samsung Galaxy S7 is on top of our list. It is an affordable smartphone with a beautiful screen, amazing design and a great camera. In addition to all those features it is also waterproof to a degree. Samsung has taken into account what its fans want, addressing the three main areas of concern: removable storage, waterproofing and battery life.

While you don’t want to take it to deep levels, the Galaxy S7 can survive 30 minutes in five feet of water. That allows you to take some photos in the pool, but you may not want to go completely under for very long. It has many other unbeatable features and simply it’s awesome.

2. Apple iPhone 7

Of course iPhone 7 should be next. You can drop iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus in water and the phones will survive short exposure to a little bit of water. Aside from the underwhelming battery life, it is an excellent phone. It’s waterproof, has fantastic cameras and performance, and the new stereo speakers sound great.

As per company the phone can survive in 3 feet water for 30 minutes. However water damaged won’t be covered in standard warranty. So, we must say that iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus are not those phones you should go swimming with, but they will survive in small exposures to water.

3. Sony Xperia Z5 / Z5 Compact

Most of the Sony smartphones are waterproof. Sony rolled out their first water resistant device Xperia Z back in 2013. The company unveiled their Z5 series last year and they declared three models altogether, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, and Xperia Z5 Premium.

These models have different specifications but they share the same range of dust and water protection (rated IP 68). The Xperia Z5 Compact is the best one. The fingerprint scanner is a great addition and the Snapdragon 810 with almost stock Android provides slick performance.

4. Xperia Z3

The flagship Sony Xperia Z3 is also no exception. This phone’s IP rating is also impressive, IP 65/IP 68 (meets both ratings). Sony Xperia Z3 can stay up to 30 minutes under water at a 1.5 m depth. The IP number of this waterproof phone starts with six, which means it has complete protection against dust, and no particles will find ways to go in.
