Pokemon GO has revealed everything that’s coming with their Gen 2 update.
Christmas Event Updates
The Pokemon GO Christmas event details have been seemingly leaked by dataminers ahead of the Gen 2 release and an upcoming announcement from developers Niantic. The update hinted strongly towards a big Christmas event along with a possible 100 new Gen 2 Pokemon for the game. A special Christmas event launched in Pokemon Go this week.
Though, this is not as much as compared to previous holiday events Halloween and Thanksgiving but there is some indication that Niantic may have more on the way. The company said earlier this month that they have a lot of different things in store to be released over the course of December. Niantic on December 7th wrote;
“We’re excited for December because we have a few new experiences and in-game events planned for you before wrapping up the year,”
Niantic also announced that limited edition Pikachu would begin showing up wearing a Santa hat.
“We also have another special treat for you. Starting later today through December 29, 2016, 10:00 A.M. PST, you’ll find limited edition Pikachu all over the world. These Pikachu will be wearing a festive hat to celebrate the season! Use the Pokémon GO AR camera when you encounter them in the wild to take their picture and share it with us using #HolidayPikachu.”
According to The Silph Road, Niantic could make it possible to customise characters with hair, shirts, pants, hats, shoes and more items. Like I said, the previous holiday events put on for Halloween and Thanksgiving offered a lot more than just a festive hat (double amount of candy, double XP and Stardust).
So far, only the new Pokemon and the holiday Pikachu really qualify as new experiences or events, so depending on how you want to interpret their language there, this could suggest there’s a more involved Christmas event coming. Niantic has always released details about their major events a few days ahead of time.
Few Tips and tricks to make the most of the Pokemon Go Christmas event
The latest update to the game allows you to transfer multiple Pokemon at once to the Professor. So, you can save a lot of your time because now all you have to do is press and hold a Pokemon to highlight it, then select any others you want to transfer at once.
Niantic recently updated the “Nearby” feature, which appears in the small window on the bottom right of the game screen. A set of footprints also lets you know how close they are (Pokestops). With two more weeks to go until Christmas, players should not get their hopes up yet, who knows what Niantic might be planning.
“Be sure to use the hashtag #PokemonGO on Twitter to share your experiences as you explore your local neighborhoods with family and friends, walk to hatch these Pokémon from Eggs, and register them to your collection this holiday season.”
Niantic refers to Christmas Pikachu as a “limited edition” Pokémon, which does suggest that you keep these forever. Santa hat would tell that you participated in the event.
